The Sociology Department at Adıyaman University, founded by Assistant Professor Dr. Bekir Kocadaş, admitted its first students and commenced education in the 2008-2009 academic year.It graduated its first students in 2012. The Department of Sociology has been chaired by Prof. Dr. Bekir Kocadaş since its founding in 2007. The Sociology Department, which also offers a master's program, first began accepting students in the 2010-2011 academic year and graduated its first graduate in 2013. Due to changes in program criteria, the master's program was not accepted until the Fall Semester of the 2016-2017 academic year. A joint thesis-based master's program was opened in the Fall Semester of 2016-2017 with our department and the Gaziantep University Sociology Department, and student admissions continued until the Fall Semester of 2018-2019. After the closure of joint master's degree programs by the Council of Higher Education in 2019, the Department of Sociology, which has met the necessary criteria to continue master's education and training, has continued to accept students for the thesis master's program since the 2019-2020 academic year.
